The Alliance Française is a non-profit language and cultural organization. The Alliance Française was founded in 1883 in Paris as a national association to promote the French language worldwide.
The foundations were established with the help of Pierre Foncin and Ambassador Paul Cambon. The Alliance of Paris was founded the following year by a board of directors comprised of several well-known figures. Indeed, the board included names like Jules Verne (author), Louis Pasteur (chemist and biologist), and Ferdinand de Lesseps (diplomat). Therefore, the first Alliance Française outside of France was established in Barcelona that same year.
There are currently 800 Alliances Françaises in 136 countries. Every year, around 500,000 students attend Alliances Françaises around the world. There are Alliances Françaises from Argentina to Canada, from the farthest tip of Africa to northernmost Scandinavia, and across Russia, Asia, and Oceania, offering international students the opportunity to discover the richness of French culture and language.

Alliance Francaise Institute, India, Reviews:
Review 1
“I spent 3+ years studying at Alliance Française in Chandigarh, India, and finally arrived in France to study Management equipped with a DALF C1, thanks to Alliance Française and my teachers.
Their teaching style can only be described as FUN! I have never been this excited to go to a class before I joined Alliance Francaise.
Of course, we had theory classes to learn the rules, etc., but we also had movie classes, role-play games, french events, theatre, and a lot of creative stuff!
Sometimes we had French people as teachers, and it was also a wholesome cultural experience beyond the teaching part. Sometimes we would invite them to our houses, take them sightseeing, and organize trips together, and all of this would happen in French.
The best thing about AF is that the class size is small. About 15-20 students. In one of my higher levels, we were only 4 of us. So you will always get more than enough attention in class.”
Review 2
“Alliance française is a great place to learn or teach French as the students are very enthusiastic about learning french and speaking it. The teachers are extremely supportive and helpful. The teachers are highly qualified to teach French and are one of the best kinds of teachers you will come across in your life. The environment is really nice. The library is amazing.
The classes or batches are of a maximum of 20–22 students. So the teachers pay really good attention to each person in the room. All the students can learn French really well.
Learning French in Alliance française is worth the fee you pay for its classes.”
Review 3
“Yes, I have learned in Alliance Française for almost 3 years.
- They have an excellent teaching team.
- Many Alliance Française have great libraries and information centers
- Teaching is done in the target language. There is very low use of translations. In some AF, they don’t use translations at all.
- All Alliance Française may not have the same quality in developing countries like India. Schools in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore are really good and full of talent
- Fee structure is quite high compared to diploma courses available in universities. But it is worth the money!
- It is the best institute to prepare for international exams like DELF, DALF and others.
- Many Alliance Française offers multiple cultural activities – French film screenings, language cafés, meets, exhibitions, etc.”
International Certification Exams
The only French as a foreign language diplomas issued by the French Ministry of Education are:
- DELF – Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française and
- DALF – Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française
They are valid for life and are accepted all over the world. They allow you to formally validate your French studies. These diplomas are proof of your school, university, and/or professional background in French. Furthermore, DELF and DALF allow you to study, work and immigrate to France.
Indian students can obtain internationally recognized DELF-DALF certifications from IFI. These certifications, which are organized with the support of the French Ministry of Education, are aimed at people of all ages, including students from schools and universities as well as the general public.
There are also language evaluation tests available, such as the
- Test d’Évaluation du Français (TEF Canada) and.
- Test de connaissance du français (TCF)
If you speak French, taking the TEF or TCF language test can greatly increase your chances of being accepted into the Express Entry pool.
